Bureau of Curious Things ✶

The Bureau of Curious Things is a fantasy novel for kids ages 8-12, delivered to your mailbox one chapter at a time.

A weekly mini-magazine built on cliffhangers, anticipation, and the belief that an analog childhood is worth protecting.

The Story

Eleven-year-old Eliza writes down every memory of her missing mother, worried she's already starting to forget.

When a hidden doorway in a seaside library leads her into a corridor of doors between worlds, she discovers her mother was a world-walker consumed by a darkness that feeds on memories.

Following her mother's trail across worlds, Eliza befriends a mysterious boy born from that darkness—only to learn that saving her mother might mean destroying him forever.

Why a magazine?

Why a magazine? *

Because we've made almost everything in childhood instant.

Shows auto-play. Games never end. Answers arrive in seconds. AI will do your work for you, if you let it.

And I think a good story should be savored, not binged.

Anticipation is part of the magic. And some stories are better when you have to wait for the next chapter.

Hi, I’m Rae

I'm a writer, founder, and mom of two. A few years ago, I started a toy rental company called Tiny Earth Toys because I wanted to make childhood more imaginative and less burdened by stuff.

When I sat down to write The Bureau of Curious Things, I realized I was chasing the same thing: wonder, adventure, and the feeling that anything might be possible.

Follow along for a behind-the-scenes look at bringing a magical story from manuscript to mailbox.

A young girl in a colorful princess dress is playing in a sunlit room with large windows, while an adult woman sits on the floor and smiles at her.
